Backlit pallasite slice: golden-green olivine glowing like stained glass

逆光橄榄陨铁薄片:金绿橄榄石像彩窗一样透光

I deal with machines all day usually, so every now and then I run something with this kind of hardcore texture just to unwind. This one’s a backlit thin slice of pallasite meteorite, translucent golden-green olivine crystals set in a polished silver iron matrix, light coming from behind through the amber crystals so it glows like a church’s stained glass window. The best part is that contrast between the organic honey-toned stone and the cold hard metal. The key when tuning it is describing the backlight transmission and the metal highlights separately, otherwise the crystals don’t read as translucent. Here’s the English version I polished up to get it closer:

A breathtaking backlit macro shot of a thin slice of a Pallasite meteorite, large translucent golden-green olivine crystals embedded in a solid polished silver iron-nickel matrix, light shining through the amber crystals so they glow like stained glass, striking contrast between the organic honey-toned stone and the rigid cold metal, luxurious ethereal mood, hyper-detailed surface, sharp crystalline edges, subtle rim light on the metal, macro depth of field

“Glows like stained glass” is such an accurate description, that golden-green texture is insane

Noted that trick of describing backlight transmission and metal highlights separately, my crystals used to never read as translucent

Saving this :eyes:

Did you give the metal matrix its own rim light for that reflection? It looks really clean

Looks like it’s fed in layers. Rim light and crystal translucency in the same sentence usually cancel each other out
