Found a pretty solid cartoon-style model for making picture book illustrations for my kid — Event Horizon Cartoon. It’s got that Western animation vibe, bright colors, perfect for little ones. The VAE is baked right in, so no extra downloads — super convenient for lazy people like me.

The default settings the author gives are: Euler a sampler, steps 20-30, CFG 3-5, clip skip 1-2, and denoising strength 0.65-0.8. If you pair it with that DMD2 LoRA, switch to LCM sampler, crank CFG down to 1-1.5, 12 steps is enough, and use resolutions like 896x1152 or 832x1216.

I usually go with the DMD2 setup to save time — 12 steps per image, super fast. After the kid’s asleep at night, I batch generate a few for storytime the next day. Quality is more than enough for picture book needs.

Honestly, having VAE built-in is such a lifesaver. Noobs don’t have to go hunting for VAE files everywhere.

DMD2’s 12-step generation is fast, but does the quality drop a lot?

Yeah, cartoon style doesn’t really show it, but with realistic stuff it’s super obvious.

Euler a with 0.7 for inpainting is the most stable combo I’ve tried so far.

I tried 12 steps too, the lines are a tiny bit blurry, but it’s good enough for picture books. If you’re printing, just bump up the step count.
