Explaining AI art to a coworker for ages, still didn't get it, so I rephrased it

So the other day at our team-building thing, someone asked me what AI art is all about. I started off with diffusion models and denoising, and the more I explained, the more confused they got. Then I switched to plain talk: you give the machine a sentence, like “a little cabin in the snow-capped mountains,” and it just draws it for you based on that—no drawing skills needed.

The basic idea is, it’s seen tons of images and learned how text maps to visuals, then it “guesses” the final piece bit by bit from noise.

I’ve realized that when explaining concepts, you shouldn’t hit people with jargon right off the bat—first let them know “what it can do,” then get into “how it works.” How do you guys usually break this down for non-techies?

I usually just say “text-to-image” and people get it right away.

The jargon really scares people off, that’s so true. When I demo for clients, I only talk about the results.

Guessing from the noise, that metaphor’s pretty spot on :100:

Thanks bro

But outsiders tend to think it can do anything, so you gotta temper those expectations first.

It works well, but then the other side immediately asks why the same sentence gives different results when translated twice.

right, need to spell out what it can’t do first, otherwise it’s all how come you can’t even handle this
