Just read FollowFox’s mid-year update. Their team’s three people, 100% self-funded, and they straight-up said the resources will stay free with at least one update per week. They laid out two core beliefs: first, they’re still bullish on hyper-customized AI, and second, they think lowering complexity and boosting convenience is the key to getting more people into generative AI.
The two new themes they added? Open source got hammered home—they said they originally treated open source as a prerequisite for their own existence, and now they’re even more convinced it’ll be the winner in many areas. The other one is flexibility—this field is way too unpredictable. What’s your core cash cow on Monday could become a free tool feature by the weekend, so they baked flexibility into the product’s DNA.
Tech-wise, it’s still SD-heavy. Their Vodka series is iterating: V4 fixed the overexposure issue from decoupling UNET and text encoder training parameters, V5 is all about data cleaning as a fresh start, and V6 plans to fully redo captioning with AI-generated captions to compare against original user prompts. As for SDXL, their stance is to experiment first, get a clear picture, then decide whether to go all-in.
