Saw an article saying Sora 2's two-month retention is nearly zero. Guess Altman needs to take notes from Douyin and Kuaishou?

There’s this take that really hits home: Sora 2’s retention rate dropped to nearly zero two months after launch. Companies like OpenAI that build models might need to take a page from Douyin and Kuaishou on how to keep users around. Whether the numbers are accurate or not, the point is solid—no matter how mind-blowing the tech is, if users try it a couple times and have no reason to come back, it’s all for nothing.

Short video platforms keep users hooked with content ecosystems, recommendations, and social connections, not just a one-off generation feature. If AI video tools only solve the “can generate” part, they’re just a novelty people try and drop. Retention is a problem that models alone can’t crack. When you guys use these tools, do you stick with them long-term or just try them once and move on?

Retention is a product problem, not a tech problem.

I pretty much just try stuff out and then uninstall it right after.

If there’s no real reason to keep using it, it’s not gonna stick around.

Two months and it dropped to zero? That’s a bit much, don’t you think?

Generating ability ≠ usage habits

The only way I’ll stick with it long-term is if it actually fits into my daily workflow.
